Managing Director: Biological Imaging Facility Northwestern University

The Biological Imaging Facility (BIF) in the Molecular Biosciences Department at Northwestern University invites applications for the Managing Director position at the research faculty level. Ph.D. level applicants with expertise in microscopy and managing core facilities are encouraged to apply.

BIF has a long-standing history of providing state-of-the-art light microscopy to the vibrant research community on Northwestern's Evanston campus. BIF focuses on training researchers in the preparation and imaging of biological samples and in providing expert advice on data analysis. This core facility operates under the direction of Dr. Laura Lackner. The facility has a wide range of microscopy platforms: laser scanning confocal (Leica SP8 and SP5) and spinning disk confocal (Yokogawa CSU-X1 on a Leica base) systems, a Nikon SoRa system, an Evident TIRF system, and several widefield fluorescence systems (e.g., Deltavision Core Elite, Leica DM6B, BioTek Lionheart).

This position requires strong organizational, leadership, and technical skills, an ability to work with a diverse body of scientists, and a keen interest in collaborating in a variety of research projects. The responsibilities of the Managing Director include the following: operation and routine maintenance of facility instruments and other equipment associated with the core, training and supervising users, preparing annual reports, writing equipment acquisition grant applications, and advising faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and students on experimental design and data analysis. The managing director is expected to develop and execute a strategic plan for the acquisition of instruments and management of services that will support current and emerging areas of biological, biomedical, and bioengineering research, with the guidance and support of the faculty director and the BIF faculty advisory committee.

Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference to the Molecular Biosciences Department (molbiosci@northwestern.edu). Women and members of underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply for this position.
