Optional Practical Training (OPT) Post-graduation US Employment Permission

QSB graduates are eligible for a total of 36 months of US employment authorization as Optional Practical Training (OPT) following degree completion.  

• QSB is a STEM OPT eligible program: CIP program code 26.1199
• QSB graduates are eligible for 12 months of OPT plus 24 months of STEM OPT extension for a total of 36 months of OPT
• Participation in OPT does NOT affect eligibility for visas for Ph.D. or M.D. programs 
• Northwestern University’s Office of International Students and Scholars Services will help students prepare the application for OPT authorization and for a STEM OPT extension
